What is your role at JUST?

Manager of Business Intelligence on the Analytics team

How would you explain your job to your grandparents?

It’s like I’m putting a complicated puzzle together. The puzzle pieces are numbers that I gather from different places and I try to paint a picture or tell a story with those numbers.

Can you give us a quick background on your career and how you made it to JUST?

I worked as a graphic designer straight out of college, which was ironic because it had nothing to do with my majors (Economics and Communication in case you were wondering) and I’ve never taken any official classes on graphic design. I worked in this field for almost two years until I decided I want to work on the data side of advertising. A friend and former JUST-er referred me to the agency and here I am!

What do you enjoy the most about working in the analytics side of marketing?

I love the versatility and puzzle-solving that comes with marketing analytics. The landscape is constantly changing so it always keeps us on our toes.

What are the latest trends or innovations that are happening in your field?

Data governance has been evolving over the years especially as ethical discussions on data regulations and user privacy grow. It’s been interesting to see how MarTech adapted to these growing discussions and we can expect to see much more changes to come.

JUST recently awarded you our quarterly, Unsung Hero Award. We’re singing your praises now! How did it feel to be recognized for your great work?

I was very honored for the recognition and really, I want to share it with my teammates who deserve the praise as well!

How do you stay up to date with the latest news in marketing? Any favorite publications/blogs you follow?

can’t say I have a particular publication/blog I follow religiously, but some that I enjoy the most are:

How are you spending your quarantine time? (Animal crossing?)

I’ve definitely spent many hours on Animal Crossing during this quarantine time, and I don’t want to admit how much time I’ve spent on it. Besides that, I’ve been experimenting with baking/cooking and doing more cycling now that the weather is warming up.

What is your go-to work playlist/podcast?

Podcasts:

Playlist: lo-fi hip hop is basically my go-to background music when I’m working

What’s the most relatable meme you’ve seen recently?

For anyone that’s been working remotely before COVID-19 hit

Is there a project or achievement you’ve earned while working at JUST that you’re most proud of?

There’s many things I’ve been proud of during my time at JUST. One project that was the most memorable and fun for me was when the analytics team had a data storytelling competition. We mocked up a dataset and brainstormed what insights we could present and visual graphs to go with it. To make it unique and creative, my group chose Mario Kart as our theme and presented insights on which item was the most cost-effective investment to help win a race. It was a fun change of pace from our daily work.

What does it take to be successful at JUST?

Having curiosity and understanding things from various perspectives. As the classic proverb goes: “it takes a village to raise a child” and it takes a team to achieve success with their clients so always remember to communicate and keep an open mind.

What is the most valuable piece of advice that you have for someone pursuing a career in marketing?

One of the best advice I’ve ever been given in my career is never to do just as you’re told – always bring something to the table, always think about how you can improve on things. Digital marketing is constantly evolving so we have to think about how to adapt and grow with it.

Lastly, what are your top three favorite TV shows?
