[ HR / Talent Acquisition Manager – Emeryville, CA ]

Role: Manager / Director (depending on yrs. of experience) of Human Resources & Talent Management

About: Just Media is seeking a Director / Manager of Human Resources & Talent Management. This strategic position within our organization is suited for someone who thrives in a high growth environment and is able to deliver friendly leadership, agility and efficiency within the elements of Human Resources. In this role you will provide consulting and leadership on a variety of generalist HR issues including, but not limited, employee relations, diversity and inclusion, talent acquisition / recruiting, employee development, succession planning, HR operations (including compensation, HRIS and benefits) and performance management. The Director / Manager of HR and Talent Management supports the business and recruitment culture.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Align people and talent management with Just Media’s core cultural and market objectives
  • Build deep partnerships across business groups to maintain and continue creating a culture of innovation and performance excellence
  • Provide guidance and solutions on matters related to employee performance and team effectiveness
  • Offer feedback on style and leadership behaviors to improve work relationships, build morale, increase productivity and drive retention
  • Assist in corporate wide initiatives designed to recognize performance through bonus, merit, employee reviews and other types of programs
  • Champion diversity initiatives, building an inclusive and developmental culture for all, making Just Media a great place to work and learn
  • Manage employee relations issues, including conflict resolution, initial performance concerns, and various others
  • Manage immigration related issues and working with outside counsel on process from recruiting to legal submission (includes EVerify processing)
  • Conduct on-boarding of new employees, helping to provide a smooth entry for each employee (including backgrounds, offer letters assistance with make ready for new hire, security set-ups and coordination with various systems) into Just Media’s dynamic and diverse culture

  • Provide talent management expertise, workforce planning and skills assessment
  • Educate supervisors and managers to help align actions and decisions with legal and company policy compliance
  • Assist with coaching of managers on performance management issues, processes and employee development for their teams
  • Help facilitate and coordinate agency training schedule as needed
  • Ensure consistency in processes and pay rates
  • Develop and maintain all job descriptions and org charts for positions within organization, including maintaining an employee database within internal systems
  • Ensure employee handbook is up to date to reflect current company information and market trends
  • Payroll management including capture of time and reporting to payroll processor, management of employee changes in payroll system (includes GT insurance management and regulatory reporting)
  • Benefits Enrollment and Management up to and including 401K (includes regulatory reporting)
  • Ensuring monitoring and reporting of employee vacation, sick time, etc.
  • Assist in establishing career paths and regular review process for the organization
  • Work closely with finance team to develop HR financial strategies by estimating, forecasting, and anticipating requirements
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local legal requirements by staying up-to-date on legislation
  • Conduct basic recruiting and screening for relevant open positions within the agency and liaising with recruiters when necessary
  • Foster communication and feedback about performance, selection processes, and staffing metrics
  • Create methodologies to develop talent pools, assess skills and comply with goals and regulations
  • Work closely with hiring managers to identify hiring needs, business objectives, role requirements and desired candidate profiles

Qualifications and experience:

  • 5+ years of experience working in a human resources business partner role with existing or previous recruiting experience
  • Bachelor’s degree (in Human Resources or equivalent training & experience)
  • Strong functional human resources knowledge
  • Well versed in disciplines of the HR function and current on emerging talent practices and developments
  • Knowledge of labor laws, employment law guidelines & policies and compliance regulations
  • Exceptional people skills and experience providing counsel/feedback
  • A flexible, progressive, solution-based approach to HR
  • Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively on a team
  • Proven ability to prioritize a heavy workload and meet deadlines
  • Ability to develop relationships and influence at all levels within the organization is required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, superb organizational skills
  • Experience with HR legal issues and working with inside and outside legal counsel
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic and fun environment
  • Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Previous experience working at an agency and/or in the advertising/publishing/martech industries a plus
  • Master’s degree and/or international HR / employment law qualifications a plus
